hear from 11 year old alex…

I began learning about Jesus in church, ever since I was a little baby. My parents took me to church every single week and I heard many Bible stories. I have been at First Baptist Church of Cumming since I was born, in 2009. However, it wasn’t until I was 5 or 6 that I began to think about Jesus and having a real relationship with him. When I was 7, I knew that I wanted to have that personal relationship, and I asked him to be my Lord and Savior.

At FBC, I am very involved in First Kidz. Each Sunday morning, we have the opportunity to learn more about Jesus in large group worship, during game time, and then, by breaking up into small groups and having teachers teach us even more about Jesus. In Awana, we have the opportunity to learn more about Jesus by memorizing verses. By committing these verses to memory, I have hidden the verses in my heart and can understand more about what the Bible tells us. I can use these verses later, when having conversations with friends and others who might not be believers. Each week at Council time, someone comes to share with us about their stories and how Jesus has impacted their lives. In First Kidz, I get to be a leader by leading the other children in worship as a part of the worship team. We learn songs to share during our worship time. This year, as a 5th grader, I get to join with other 5th graders and do a special Bible study where we can learn more about Christ and have fun together.

With my family at FBC, we’ve been able to participate in several mission projects. We’ve been to Nashville with other families to learn more about other religions and how to reach others for Christ and we’ve been to Kentucky, where we were able to help others this Christmas by partnering with Club 180 and providing them with a meal and presents that they might not have been able to afford otherwise.

In Cumming, over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to plan game and activity nights at Saxony Apartments, provide childcare for new churches (Vertical Church), and even to host a Trunk or Treat booth for our Fall Festival so that others could hear more about different Bible stories. These opportunities have made me realize that there are so many around us, even in Cumming, that don’t know Christ. I feel God prompting me to share the message of His love with each of them, including a close friend at school. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to serve others and to show them the love Christ has for all of us. Each opportunity provides me the chance to strengthen my relationship with Christ and to share His love!
