Bobby Wilson - Chair of Deacons

Bobby, his wife Carrie, and his daughter Emily joined FBC in 2015.  Bobby and Carrie have been happily married since 1999.  In 2013, they moved from Central Florida to Cumming.  Bobby serves both in the Middle School Ministry with his wife and in Awana with his daughter.  The Wilsons have led FBC’s Operation Christmas Child drive for the past wo years.  Bobby and his family love the mission opportunities at FBC and consider FBC their second home.

Frankie Estell

Frankie (George) and his wife Pauline Estell served at Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Roswell for over 20 years before moving to the Cumming area and joining FBC in April 2016.  They have been happily married for 35 years.  They are blessed with 2 sons, 2 daughters-in-love, 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and truly cherish any time they get to spend with them.  Frankie and Pauline enjoy singing in the Celebration Choir as well as serving in ecumenical ministries in the community.  Pauline serves with the Kathy Jolly Women On Mission Group where Frankie assists during their fundraisers and singing at Country Gardens Senior Living facility.  They are members of Bible Explorers Connect Group.  Frankie is a retired teacher & coach from Forsyth Central High School and continues to enjoy ministering to high schoolers as a substitute teacher.

Bruce Shanks

Bruce, and his wife Vicki, first joined FBC in 1998 after several corporate moves that relocated them to Cumming, Georgia.  They actively served in several churches during those years of corporate relocations.  Bruce and Vicki have been happily married since 1966.  After serving at FBC for nine years, retirement, in 2007, took Bruce and Vicki to North Carolina until 2013 when they returned to Cumming and re-joined FBC.  Bruce has been a Deacon and a Bible Study Teacher for over 40 years, currently co-teaching in the Salt and Shakers Connect Group and the Wednesday night Bible Study.  Vicki has been serving in the adult choir and missions for several years.  They have three married children and seven grandchildren. 

Tom Richardson

Tom has been married to Jane for 51 years and they have two children and 7 grandchildren. Both retired in 2014 and moved to Cumming from Montgomery Alabama in 2015 to be near family. Tom was a member of Dalraida Baptist in Montgomery for 61 years where he was ordained as a deacon. Tom and Jane joined FBC in 2018 and are members of the Agape Connect Group. Tom plays in the church orchestra and serves on The Shut In Ministry team. Tom also has a music ministry playing saxophone programs at care facilities in Cumming and Woodstock.

Gary Clark

Gary and his wife Jean, joined FBCC in 2012. Gary and Jean have been happily married since 1969. We moved from East Tennessee to Cumming due to a job relocation. Gary serves in the FirstKidz ministry, the Alpha and Omega Tutoring ministry, and the ESL ministry. God has blessed us with three grandsons. FBCC has blessed us with many opportunities to serve and great fellowship with 50+ activities and Connect Group and Bible study group members.

 

Vernon Sisk

I moved to Georgia from  Tennessee in 1987.  We moved to Cumming in 1988. We found First Baptist Cumming  by the Grace of God through the invitation of some close friends. Carla and I joined FBC Cumming in 1999( Carla actually joined in 1998).  I was ordained as a Deacon in 2001. Since that time, in addition to serving as a Deacon, I have served in the Choir , taught connect groups , and short term Bible studies.

Michael Strong

Married to Julie Strong since 2003. We have two daughters Reagan and Caroline. We have been members since 2013.  We served in First Kidz teaching Awanas and helping with game time. We currently serve on the First Kidz Committee.

Russ Thorne

Russ and his wife Nancy joined FBC in 2008.  They have been married since 1997. Russ is an usher for the contemporary service and class Administrator for the Hear & Do class.  He also serves on the Personnel Committee.  Nancy is the President of the Ruth Reed WOM group.

 

Scott Harrison

Scott and his wife Anna moved to Forsyth County and joined FBC in 2015. They have a daughter, Margarite (7) and a son, Ramsay (3).  Scott has helped teach adult connect groups in recent years, most recently in the amazing Pairs and Parents class. Anna is now in her 4th year teaching in the First Steps preschool ministry. They are passionate about God’s story for us in the Bible and love the FBC community where they can share that with both adults and children.

John Schumaker

John and his wife Linda joined FBC in 2019.  John and Linda will celebrate 56 years of marriage in February and have 3 children and 5 grandchildren.  They moved to Cumming from Stafford, Virginia, where they were teachers in their church children’s ministry and where John was a deacon.  At FBC John and Linda are happy to be worshiping in the choir.  They are active in the Salt and Shakers connect group where John is the president and an occasional teacher.  John retired after 20 years from the FBI as an engineering unit chief and is currently serving on the Handy Deacon committee.  John and Linda are both active in weekly Bible studies and love the new friends and ministry opportunities they have found at FBC.   

Tim Brown

Tim and Tammy have been members of FBC since 1993. They have two daughters, Carey and Lindsey. Carey is married to Ben Hornsby and they have two children, Ruby and Sam. Lindsey is married to Ryan Caruthers.Tim and Tammy have been married for 41 years. They are members of the "Empty Nesters" bible fellowship group and enjoy volunteering for service projects and supporting missions projects. Tim has served as deacon for several terms during his 30 years at the church.

 

Matthew Cuttell

Matt, his wife Michele, and their two sons Colton and Carson began attending FBC in 2018 when they moved to the area. Matt and Michele have been married since 2006 and are very excited to be in such a great church and area where they can put down roots. The Cuttells are active in the music ministry, with Matt in the orchestra and the boys in the youth praise bands.

John Henry

John and Katy Henry, and their kids Ethan and Ava, began visiting FBC in 2015 and joined in 2016. Katy and John married in 2002 and welcomed Ethan in 2005 and Ava in 2008.  They moved from Chattanooga to the Atlanta area in 2006 and have been residents of Forsyth county since 2013.  John and Katy have served in First Kidz previously and are active members of the Impact Connect group.  Both kids are active in youth group and were baptized at FBC. 

Tim McCurley

Tim and his wife Stephanie have been members of FBC since 2016. They have been married since 2003 and have five children, Ross, Fay, Maggie, Archer, and Clare.   Born and raised in Altoona, Alabama, they have resided in Virginia, Florida, and Kentucky for Tim's job commitments prior to settling in Cumming, Georgia.  Tim serves as the leader of the Branches Connect Group and Stephanie volunteers her time in the preschool.  They love serving in various other activities at FBC and look forward to continued spiritual growth.

 

Chris Roberts

Chris, and his wife Brianna, got married and moved to Cumming in 2015. They immediately got plugged in and joined FBC Cumming.  Chris is from Alabama and Brianna is from South Carolina, and FBC quickly became their Christian Family. Chris and Brianna serve in the young married class, “Pairs and Parents”, on Sundays and Wednesday nights as well as in First Kids. They have 2 children, Grady (4) and Hatten (1).

Bill Robertson

Bill and his wife Gretta have been members of FBC or over 10 years. They are currently active in the Hear and Do class, with Bill teaching the class several weeks a year. Bill works as a teacher at West Forsyth High School, a job that he has had since he and his family moved to Georgia in 2007. Gretta is also at West Forsyth, working as a speech pathologist.

Bobby Cagle

Bobby joined FBC in 2008 with his family. He and his wife Tamie have been married since 1998 and have three children, Glenn, Anna, and Caleb.  Bobby had served as a middle school connect group teacher  and has been serving in the High School ministry since 2017.  He and his family have participated in several mission trips. Bobby is excited about the numerous opportunities to serve at FBC. 

Jim Fitts

Jim, his wife Kim along with their daughter and son, Mary and Russ, joined FBC in 2001.  Jim and Kim are also blessed with three grandchildren.  Jim currently serves with the Ambassador Greeters and as a teacher in the Empty Nesters Connection Group.  A special scripture of Jim’s is Rev 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him and dine with him, and he with me.”

Allen Bowns

Allen and his wife Victoria joined the church in 1999. They were married in 1991 and have 4 kids, Ansleigh, Caroline, Brianna, and Reese and two grandchildren, Ryleighbeth and Teegan Cagle. Allen serves in the choir and FirstKidz. Allen is a Dentist in Johns Creek and Victoria has taught elementary school for over 30 years.

Lance Walker

Lance and his wife, Paula, were married in 2002. They joined FBC Cumming soon afterward. They have two daughters, Charley (17) and Addison (14). Lance and Paula have served in many ministry areas from preschool to middle school progressing as their girls have grown up. They currently serve in the middle school ministry and enjoy going on various mission trips and serving at events locally at their home church. Their family has grown in their faith alongside their church family and believe deeply in the work and mission of FBC Cumming.

Erik Peterson

Erik, his wife, Kathy, and their two daughters, Aubrey and Maggie, have been members of FBC since 2008. They are Georgia natives and have lived in Ball Ground for almost 19 years. Erik is a connect group leader for The Iron Men and serves on the Men's Ministry team. He is a Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist and loves to spend time outdoors fly fishing.

Jerry Van Orden

Jerry and his wife, Sandy, joined FBC in 2003.  They have enjoyed multiple areas of service at the church.  Sandy has served in several capacities including the music ministry, women's ministry team, and VBS.  She is presently serving as a ministry assistant focusing primarily on discipleship.  At this time Jerry is serving on both the men's ministry team and in FirstKidz.  Their two children, both of whom were raised and baptized at First Baptist Church, are currently in college.

Jason and his wife, Sharon, first met while they were members at First Baptist Orlando. They have been married since 2001 and were blessed with the birth of their daughter Morgan in 2002. Jason and Sharon moved to Cumming in 2007 and have been members of FBC since 2017. Since their time at FBC, Jason and Sharon are active members of the Impact Connect Group and serve together in both AWANA Cubbies and the Explore First ministry.

Bob James

Bob and his wife Shirley joined First Baptist in 1998. Since joining FBC they have been involved in many activities in Church Life. They taught First Steps for several years and served as Stephen Ministers. They have been members of several Connect Groups/Sunday School Classes. They helped start Salt and Shakers and Lost and found.

Bob has served as Deacon Chair 3 times and Church Moderator two times.Shirley lead the Operation Christmas Child since it began in FBC. Shirley served as Senor Adult Coordinator  with Nancy Vaughn for several years. Serving Our Lord and Savior in FBC has been a part our lives since joining

Brent Cook

Brent and his wife Sloan got married in 1994 and joined FBC in 1995. We have a daughter, Ensley, that is a student at Western Carolina University. Brent and Sloan were both AWANA teachers while their daughter was in the program. Brent and Sloan were also on the Baptism Committee for many years. Currently, Brent serves as a front door greeter, which is a fantastic opportunity to meet current members and visitors. Brent and his family have enjoyed seeing FBC emerge as the leader for the advancement of God's Kingdom in our community.
